Today I can say most of my plants survive

Es begann mit Bob Ross. 

Als ich diesen Maler eines Nachts im Fernseher auf Kanal weissnichtwieviel entdeckte, war ich sprachlos. Und schlief sofort ein. Aber das Feuer war entfacht. Malen schien so easy zu sein. Also kaufte ich mir eine Leinwand, Farben und Pinsel und malte mit ihm on the screen ein Bild. Völlig ungeübt und talentfrei. Es folgten viele weitere und irgendwann war ich die Happy-Little-Tree-Königin. 

Eine neue Herausforderung musste her. Ich wagte mich an Portraits und startete mit meiner ersten und grössten Inspiration Ella Fitzgerald. Die Nase wurde etwas zu klein, aber man erkannte sie. Es folgten weitere Ikonen, die mich gesanglich sehr geprägt haben: Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston (dreimal gemalt und nie gut), Erykah Badu, Eva Cassidy. Auf der To Do-Wunschliste zuoberst: Norah Jones und Billie Eilish. 

Die gemalten Ladies stehen auf meinem Klavier. 

Erykah schaut streng auf mich herunter. 

Ja, ok, ich male, obwohl ich es nicht kann. Ich tue es mit Leichtigkeit, weil ich nichts erwarte. Warum nicht genau so -endlich wieder- Musik machen? Einfach loslegen, mit grossem Herzen, es muss grooven, es müssen meine Lyrics und meine Songs sein. Die Musiker müssen Freunde und die Proben lustig sein.

Mit nur vier Farben kann man ganz schön abwechslungsreich malen.

It began with Bob Ross. 

When I discovered this painter one night on TV on channel  who-knows-which, I was speechless. And I immediately fell asleep. But the «painting fire» was lit. It seemed so easy. So I bought a canvas, paints and brushes and painted a picture  with Bob accompanying me on the screen. Me:  completely inexperienced and talentless. Many more paintings followed and at some point, I became The Happy Little Tree Queen. 

I craved a new challenge, so I ventured into portraits and started with my first and biggest inspiration:  Ella Fitzgerald. The nose was a little too small, but she was recognizable. This was followed by other icons who had a strong vocal influence on me:  Aretha Franklin; Whitney Houston (painted three times and never good); Erykah Badu and Eva Cassidy. At the top of the To Do Wish List: Norah Jones and Billie Eilish. 

The painted ladies are on my piano. 

Erykah looks down at me sternly. 

Yes, ok, I paint, even though I can't. I do it with ease because I have no expectations. Why not make music exactly like that -finally- again? Just go for it, with a big heart, let it groove, it needs to be my lyrics and my songs. The musicians should be friends and the rehearsals will be enjoyable.
